If you hand is an open hand and you need FF can a Flower be called at any time or only to make Mahjong. Same for when you need 11 any game that needs pairs. Can a joker be used on a pair. Just beginning and very confused. Thank you for your help. 🙂 Elaine

Elaine, I am also a beginner but have been taught that Jokers may NOT be used for pairs ever. Also, the only time you can call for a discarded tile to complete a pair is when you are calling mahjongg. To make a pair otherwise, they must be dealt to you, or passed to you in the Charleston, or you must pick them from the wall. You can’t use jokers or pick up a discarded tile to make a pair unless you are calling mahjongg; then you can pick up a discard. But you can never use a joker to complete a pair or use two jokers to make a pair. hope this helps.
